Volunteer Job Description
Program Specialist
Purpose of Position: Assists Library staff in planning and presenting programs in the Library and at various outreach locations.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must have high school diploma.
- Commitment to the mission of the Library.
- Ability to plan and present effective, age-appropriate programs.
- Ability to speak publicly before small and large groups of people.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work independently.
Essential Physical Skills:
- Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).
- Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid).
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Plans and presents programs inside the Library and/or at outreach locations such as childcare centers, schools, nursing homes, and other sites.
- Refers patron requests or questions to appropriate Library staff.
- Gives supervisor sufficient notice if unable to keep shift assignment.
- Notifies supervisor of problems or suggestions for improved programs.
Training Provided:
- Orientation to the Library.
- Orientation to specific outreach locations.
- Assistance in planning programs.
Responsible to: Outreach/Youth Services Librarian
Time Commitment: Minimum of 2 hours per month
Length of Commitment: Minimum of 6 months
Grounds for Termination:
- Failure to carry out assigned responsibilities or to comply with Library policy.
- Breach of confidentiality.
- Unacceptable behavior toward Library users, staff, or members of the public.
