Volunteer Job Description
Grounds Maintenance Worker
Purpose of Position: Assists with the maintenance of the Library’s parking lot and flowerbeds. A well-kept exterior helps the Library to maintain a neat and attractive overall appearance and a positive impression for Library users.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 14 years old.
- Commitment to the mission of the Library.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work independently.
- Aptitude for detail and neatness.
Essential Physical Skills:
- Ability to bend to the ground.
- Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Weeds flowerbeds.
- Sweeps parking lot and sidewalks to maintain unobstructed paths.
- Removes trash and litter from Library exterior, including parking lot and flowerbeds.
- Refers patron requests or questions to appropriate Library staff.
- Gives supervisor sufficient notice if unable to keep shift assignment.
- Notifies supervisor of problems or suggestions for improvement.
Training Provided:
- Orientation to the Library.
- Instruction for assignment.
Responsible to: Branch Manager and/or Designated Supervisor
Time Commitment: Minimum of 1 hour
Length of Commitment: No ongoing commitment necessary
Grounds for Termination:
- Failure to carry out assigned responsibilities.
- Breach of confidentiality.
- Unacceptable behavior toward Library users or staff.
