Code of Conduct


The following code of conduct has been adopted by the Columbia County Board of County Commissioners to ensure the comfort and safety of all library users and staff:

  1. No smoking, eating or drinking permitted in the Library except in designated areas.
  2. No loitering, prolonged sleeping, abusive language, harassment of library staff or members of the public is allowed.
  3. Money, personal checks and/or other valuables (such as wallets and jewelry) left in the Library will be turned over to the Police Department within 24 hours of discovery. The Library is not responsible for personal belongings left in any library materials or on Library property.
  4. Anyone who is blatantly disruptive or who does not follow the Library Code of Conduct will be asked to leave the Library for the remainder of the day. Behavior dangerous to staff and/or patrons or repetition of disruptive behavior will result in the individual being placed on "Trespass After Warning" notification with the appropriate law enforcement agency.
  5. Library staff is not responsible for the safety or well-being of children left at the Library or on Library grounds. Children under the age of six years may not be left at the Library for "babysitting" purposes. The Police Department or other appropriate law enforcement agency will be notified if unattended children are on Library premises at closing.
  6. This code covers behavior throughout all Public Library outlets including Headquarters Library, Branches, Library vehicles and programs under Library control. Discipline problems must be referred to the staff of that agency.
