Volunteer Job Description
Book Repair Technician
Purpose of Position: Assists Library staff in cleaning and repairing books and other Library materials. Neat and appropriate repair extends the life of Library materials and makes them more appealing to Library users.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 14 years old.
- Commitment to the mission of the Library.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work independently or with a small group.
- Aptitude for detail and neatness.
Essential Physical Skills:
- Acceptable fine motor skills.
- Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Repairs library materials.
- Cleans library materials.
- Applies covers to library materials.
- Gives supervisor sufficient notice if unable to be present at monthly workshop.
- Notifies supervisor of problems beyond the scope of volunteer’s training and skill.
Training Provided:
- Orientation to the Library.
- Two-hour training in basic book repair.
Responsible to: Book Repair Supervisor
Time Commitment: 2 hours per month (2nd Wednesday of each month, 2:00-4:00 pm)
Length of Commitment: Minimum of 3 months
Grounds for Termination:
- Failure to carry out assigned responsibilities.
- Breach of confidentiality.
- Unacceptable behavior toward Library users or staff.
